Pritchard House

Pritchard House

The site slopes steeply from the road to the sea. Cars are garaged on the top of the studio, storage pavilion, which is linked by a bridge to the house, a steel frame structure 30 metres long by 4.5 metres wide, elevated from 2 to 8 metres above the ground.

The house is orientated to the north to maximize sea views and exposure to winter sun for passive winter heating. North and south walls are composed of sliding glass doors, allowing substantial cross ventilation for cooling in summer.

The innovative bridge like structure with exposed steel cables is supported on only two pairs of columns, minimising foundation costs and site disturbance, and allowing the native vegetation to occupy most of the site.
